IMF's Largard Says Iraq Oil Shock Could Hurt U.S. Economy -Fox Business
An escalation of the conflict in Iraq has the potential to negatively impact the U.S. economy from a possible oil shock, but only if the fighting deepens and is protracted, the head of the International Monetary Fund said Monday.
IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde, in an interview with the Fox Business Network, acknowledged that escalating increased violence from Sunni extremists might affect the U.S. economy.
But for that to happen, Ms. Lagarde said, the potential oil stock "would have to be rather deep and rather long lasting, which is certainly not what we hope."
The IMF earlier Monday released its annual review of the U.S. economy, cutting its forecast for economic growth this year by 0.8 percentage points to 2% but calling for improved growth in 2015 of 3%.
